Youth Director
Romekia Jackson is the Youth Director and serves on the Hospitality Committee at East Garland Church. She joined the church in 2017 and has continued helping children and serving faithfully.
Executive Elder
Cornelius Q. Anderson has been a member of East Garland C.O.G.I.C. since 1990, serving in various capacities within the Church of God in Christ. With over two decades of experience in public schools and higher education, he holds a bachelor’s from Texas Woman’s University, a master’s from American College of Education, a post-graduate certificate from Sam Houston State University, and multiple Texas education certifications. Elder Anderson is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at the University of North Texas.
Missionary
Valita Cleaver joined the East Garland Church in 2018. She is married to Elder: David Cleaver and mother of two sons. Missionary Cleaver Currently enjoys serving as Prayer and Bible Band teacher, Praise and
Worship team and choir member, Youth Sunday School teacher. One of her favorite scriptures: Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
Elder
David J. Cleaver is an ordained Elder in the “Church of God in Christ,” He currently serves as the Sunday School Superintendent and teacher at East Garland Church. Born and raised in a Christian family, Elder Cleaver struggled during his college years but was eventually restored. He felt the call to ministry during his college years. He and his wife are now fulfilling that calling successfully. He is destined to honor God and fulfill his purpose.
Brief Church History
East Garland Church was established in 1976 by W.A. Baker, a visionary pastor with a deep commitment to serving the community. Inspired by a calling to create a welcoming space for worship and fellowship. The church was originally called “East Garland Mission,” and in 1986 W.A. Baker, joined the denomination known as “Church of God in Christ, (C.O.G.I.C).” and changed it to it’s current name “East Garland Church. Baker would rise in the ranks and eventuality became an Elder, then a Superintendent and finally an administrative assistant to Bishop, David. R Houston. In 1992 Jae Akachi became a member and was mentored by Supt. W. A. Baker . Becoming a licensed minister in 1993. But In 2013 Our founder went to glory and Jae became interim pastor and officially became our pastor one year later.
