History
East Garland Church was established in 1976 by W.A. Baker, a visionary pastor with a deep commitment to serving the community. Inspired by a calling to create a welcoming space for worship and fellowship. The church was originally called “East Garland Mission,” and in 1986 W.A. Baker, joined the denomination known as “Church of God in Christ, (C.O.G.I.C).” and changed it to it’s current name “East Garland Church. Baker would rise in the ranks and eventuality became an Elder, then a Superintendent and finally an administrative assistant to Bishop, David. R Houston. In 1992 Jae Akachi became a member and was mentored by Supt. W. A. Baker . Becoming a licensed minister in 1993. But In 2013 Our founder went to glory and Jae became interim pastor and officially became our pastor one year later.
Receiving his official Elders ordination in 2014. After establishing himself with prayer, dedication, and hard work. And after 10 years of blood, sweat and tears. Pastor Akachi is motivated and compelled to take the church to its destiny, and honor the legacy of Dr. Superintendent, W.A. Baker.
